Infertility is a major problem that is faced by some of the couples. The major depravity of this problem is that it induces mental stress, and is associated with the emotions. Many times infertility problem creates many other psychological problems in a couple. However, the development in medical field has given many opportunities to conclude the problem and give happy life. This article will explain you about the basic male infertility symptoms and the tests.
The most common symptom of infertility in men is a low count of sperm and poor quality of sperm. Around 90% of men who have infertility problems suffer it due to lower sperm count. According to the recent published data of WHO, it is concluded that the normal sperm count is over 15 million sperm per milliliter. Oligozoospermia is the medical term used for the low sperm count. There are only few physical examination that determines and pin-point the exact reason for infertility.
Following are the physical exams and infertility clinic tests that are observed in male patient to identify the cause of infertility in male.
- Varicocele Symptoms Test- It’s a swollen varicose vein in the left side of scrotum. Varicocele is one of the major problems that induce infertility in male. The common sign of Varicocele symptom is that the scrotum looks like “a bag of worms”. Also, many men having Varicocele symptoms complain about the pain while they stand for certain extended time.
- Size and Temperature of Testicles- Softer and smaller sized testicles are strongly associated with the production or formation of sperms in testis. This type of testicle contains some obstruction in sperm production. The ideal temperature of testis also ensures the sperm or semen production. If the temperature of testis are not ideal than there are chances that sperm production will be low or of lower quality.
- Urethra opening Test- This is ran to determine if the person has hypospadias. Hypospadias is a birth problem; it means that urethra is abnormally placed. This test determines if the urinary meatus (opening of urethra) is at the tip of glans penis. In correct location of urethra opening could result in infertility in male.
- Hormonal Test- The level of Follicle Stimulating Hormone and testosterone is tested in blood. Usually, a blood sample is checked for any kind of genetic causes of infertility. Cystic fibrosis, Y-chromosome microdeletion, or Klinefelter syndrome are some of the common genetic causes of infertility.
Treatment of infertility in men varies upon the causes of infertility. Above common tests are performed to determine the cause of infertility. However, the wisest step is to avoid harmful habits that can cause infertility. Prevention is always considered better than cure. So, every man must be cautious and prevent himself from the infertility problems. Following are the prevention methods to eradicate the chances of infertility.
- Avoid Smoking as it affects the sperm DNA
- Say no to alcohol and marijuana use
- Avoid excessive heat to the tests
- Too frequent coital will affect the motility and counts of sperm.
